Socialization Patterns which are Introduced in the Textbooks of Social Studies and National Education at the Primary Educational Levels in Jordan

The purpose of the present study was to identify the availability extent of
social patterns introduced in the textbooks of social and national education
in the primary stage in Jordan. To that end, content analysis was made to
the textbooks of these subjects from grade one 1st to 10th grade. Authors
adopted single paragraph as analysis unit selected from the Social & national
education Textbooks to screen out socialization patterns. To answer study
questions, frequencies and percentages were used with the first and third
questions, and Kroksal- Wallace test was used with question two. Results
from this study showed that textbooks were not void from socialization
(religious, psycho- educational and social) patterns, though in small
percentages, not sequenced and unordered, through various school levels, so,
their application role in family and school was well perceived. However, in
some stages they had a salient role in developing young generation acquiring
values and moral attitudes that create good relations and skills necessary to
participate in community’s civil life, acceptance social responsibility, and
recognizing proactive social behaviors. The study recommended revisiting
content of primary Social & national education textbooks by implying in them
socialization patterns, providing Social Education teachers with training
conducted by expert psychologists educators focused on the utility of such
varied patterns among primary stage students.
