Abstract

The study aimed at investigating the extent to which high school teachers

implement the total quality criteria in teaching at public schools in Irbid

education of Directorate, from the viewpoint of the educational supervisors

in this directorate. The study consisted of (80) educational supervisors who

were randomly chosen. The study instrument was a questionnaire which

consisted of seventy-three items distributed to (10) categories which reflected

the total quality criteria, divided into: (knowledge coordination development

thinking skills, providing positive class environment, educational technology,

individual differences, connecting school with local society, developing

evaluation tools, extra curriculur activities, reinforcing country loyalty and

calling for peace and forgiveness ). The factors of validity and reliability of

the instrument indcated that it was suitable to measure what it was intended

to.

Statistical analysis revealed that the mean related to the level of the

implementation of total quality criteria by teachers ranged from average to

high. However, the overall average of these means was high. Hypotheses

test results did not reveal any statistically significant differences which

would be due to the variables of educational qualification, specialization,

and gender. In the light of these results, the researcher recommends that a

purposeful teaching policy be adopted, and should be based on a fully aware

administration and leadership regarding the needs for change. Furthermore,

the policy should be supportive of the government’s goals related to the

implemention of the total quality criteria in teaching, as well as fostering

the culture of change and development in society. Finally, this policy should

seek to convince people that it is a national requirement rather than being a

temporary luxurious thing.
